ABOUT

Dr. Matthew J. Coston, D.O., originally from NC found his way to San Antonio, TX through his career in the US Army. While in the Army, he initially served as a Combat Medic for nearly a decade before transitioning into an Army Physician Assistant. At the conclusion of his Army career, he decided to continue his pursuit of medical education and make San Antonio his residence. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from The University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine(UIWSOM), earning numerous honors and awards to include honors distinction on all clinical rotations and awards such as Excellence in Family Medicine Award, Excellence in Internal Medicine Award, Sir Wm. Osler Clinical Skills Award, UIWSOM Mission Award, UIWSOM Professionalism Award, UIWSOM Outstanding Leadership and Professionalism Award.

He continued his graduate medical education here in San Antonio through the Texas Institute of Graduate Medical Education and Research (TIGMER) Community-Based Family Medicine Residency, where he served as chief resident his final year of training. He then went on to Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship with TIGMER and Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio focusing on musculoskeletal pathologies and general bone and joint health. He is a proud father of 2 (Aniyah, a junior pre-law student at UT Arlington and Matthew Junior, affectionately called MJ) with whom he enjoys travel, water sports/activities, cooking, live shows and sporting events (GoSpursGo!). He is passionate about patient-centered care, sports medicine, medical leadership, and advancing healthcare within underserved communities.
