ABOUT
Andrew L. Whaley, M.D., is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with a subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine. The American Board of Orthopedic Surgery Certification demonstrates an Orthopedic Surgeon’s attainment to high standards for education, knowledge, experience, and skills. Dr. Whaley specializes in trauma, sports medicine injuries, and adult reconstruction (joint replacement) of the knee, hip, and shoulder.
Sports Medicine is the practice of medicine that deals with injuries to the muscles, tendons, and ligaments of the body. These injuries can occur during athletic events or in everyday activities. Dr. Whaley will evaluate you and may request specialized imaging to assess the soft tissue structures that are not visible on radiographs before making a recommendation for treatment. Regarding adult reconstruction of the joints, Dr. Whaley focuses on the knee, hip, and shoulder. For the knee, he specializes in partial and total knee replacement, utilizing the latest technology available. For the hip, Dr. Whaley performs hip replacement surgery in either a direct anterior approach (between the muscles without detaching them) or an anterolateral approach (detaching a section of the hip muscles and repairing them to the bone at the end of the surgery). Regarding shoulder replacement surgery, Dr. Whaley performs both anatomic and reverse total shoulder replacements.
