What is a prp injection?
A Patient’s Guide
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are a biological care option that help reduce inflammation and improve function by using the body’s reparative cells (platelets).
What is a PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) gets its name from the process of concentrating platelets within the plasma, the liquid part of your blood. While platelets are primarily known for blood clotting, they also contain numerous growth factors crucial for tissue repair.
How it works
PRP therapy involves separating these platelets and plasma from the rest of the blood to create a solution with a significantly higher concentration of healing platelets.A person's own natural anti-inflammatory growth factors are released, and these anti-inflammatory product components go and inhibit the destructive enzymes that are causing degeneration of cartilage or tendons.
Growth factors are released by the platelets and are then utilized in the tissue repair process. These chemical messengers, called cytokines, are released by your platelets, and they recruit reparative cells to an area. When those reparative cells arrive in the targeted area, they utilize those growth factors to allow intracellular maturation.
Anti-inflammatories are naturally produced by your platelets. Growth factors and cytokines, are biological process that enhance the body’s own healing process.

Our doctors routinely use Platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) Injections to improve function associated with:
Osteoarthritis
(knee, hip, ankle, shoulder)
Lateral Epicondylitis
(Tennis Elbow)
Rotator Cuff Tears
Plantar Fasciitis
Achilles Tendinitis
