Dr. Hector U. Lopez is board certified in Family Medicine and holds a CAQ in Sports Medicine. He joined Sports Medicine Associates in 2014 after several years in private practice in his hometown of El Paso, Texas. Dr. Lopez is experienced in providing non-operative care options for patients of all ages. He is currently a team physician for Trinity University, Texas A&M San Antonio, the San Antonio FC soccer team, and multiple local high schools. Dr. Lopez serves as clinical faculty for the TIGMER Sports Medicine Fellowship associated with the University of Incarnate Word and is involved in teaching current sports medicine fellows, medical residents and medical students in the area.

In the past, he has provided medical coverage for the former San Antonio Rampage Hockey and WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars teams, the All American Bowl, San Antonio Rock N Roll Marathon, the University of Texas at San Antonio, and San Antonio Golden Gloves boxing tournaments.

Dr. Lopez was named a Regional Top Doctor 2020 by Castle Connolly. He was also honored to be selected as a member of the 2017 Leadership San Antonio Class 42. He is a graduate of Trinity University and the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. He trained in Scottsdale Arizona, where he served as Chief Resident, was named an "Emerging Leader" by the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians in 2008, and also gained sports medicine experience working with Arizona State University and the Oakland A's.

Dr. Lopez was honored to be named an "Emerging Leader" by the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians in 2008. Recently, he was selected as a member of the 2017 Leadership San Antonio Class 42. He is a graduate of Trinity University and the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. During training he served as Chief Resident and also gained sports medicine experience working with Arizona State University and the Oakland A's.
