ABOUT
Dr. Daniel L. Santa Maria is a board certified specialist in PM&R and Primary Care Sports Medicine and has practiced in San Antonio for 10 years.
After moving from his home state of Kansas, he completed his residency and fellowship training in San Antonio, and he was employed as a faculty attending at UT Health for 3 years before coming to work full time for the Sports Medicine Associates.
Dr. Santa Maria continues to hold a teaching appointment at UT Health and enjoys teaching residents about the field of sports medicine. He has served as an oral boards examiner for his specialty. He has also coauthored research articles on topics in sports medicine, electrodiagnostic medicine, and orthobiological and regenerative medicine for the treatment of osteoarthritis.
He has served as team physician for the San Antonio Rampage, a team physician for Division I college programs, and has covered the Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament, served as a medical captain for the Rock N’ Roll Marathon, and is a proud team physician for several area high school teams.
In 2007 he received the Elkins award for the highest national score on the PM&R written boards. More recently he was selected one of San Antonio’s “Top Doctors” in the San Antonio magazine in 2009, 2012, 2016 and 2018.
